FIFA Series in March: SL-origin players called up to strengthen National Pool

Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) will be a host of the inaugural ‘FIFA Series’ that will take place during the international window in March this year. The tourney that will take place at the Colombo Racecourse will run from 18-26 March. 

Bhutan, Central African Republic, and Papua New Guinea along with the hosts will be playing inaugural FIFA Series Sri Lanka Edition 2024.

The FIFA Series has been launched in order to increase the possibilities for teams from different confederations to play against each other in meaningful matches that provide further opportunities for growth and unity among member associations from every corner of the world. Meanwhile Fifteen overseas-based  footballers of Sri Lankan origin have been called-up to the national squad for the upcoming series to undergo training.

9. Leon Perera (CM)

10. Regize Canistan (LM/LW)

11. Waseem Razeek (CF/RW)

12. Dillon De Silva (RW/LW)

13. Oliver Kelaart (RW/CF)

14. Rahul Suresh (CF/RW)

15. Mario Jude Dominicus (LW/RW)

Here are some details of the Europe-based players called for the Sri Lanka National Squad:

Anujan Rajendram – a 23-year-old Sri Lankan-origin player, currently shining with his prowess as a Central Midfielder for Oppsal IF Football in the Norwegian 4th Tier. His selection for the forthcoming FIFA Series reflects his exceptional talent and potential contribution to the Sri Lankan national team. Anujan’s inclusion not only highlights his individual prowess but also strengthens the team’s midfield options. 

Steven Sacayaradjy – a 27-year-old Defensive Midfielder currently showcasing his talent at NEW FC Borgo B in France. Notably, his versatility extends to the positions of Right Midfield and Centre-Back. His potential inclusion is poised to significantly enhance the strength and depth of the Sri Lanka national football team, particularly as they prepare for the FIFA Series.


Leon Perera – the centre midfielder from Germany’s MTV Treubund Lüneburg, has been spotted in the national camp training season in Sri Lanka. His presence indicates a strong commitment to representing the nation and contributing to the team’s efforts. As a player with experience from a reputable club like MTV Treubund Lüneburg, Leon Perera likely brings valuable skills and expertise to the national team, particularly in midfield play.


Jason Thayaparan – standing at a height of 1.86 metres, he plays as a Centre-Back. Hailing from Germany, he currently plies his trade at SV Eintracht Trier 5 in the Fifth Tier of German football. At 28 years of age, Jason brings with him a wealth of experience and expertise, which is expected to greatly bolster the defensive capabilities of the Sri Lankan national team. His inclusion promises to infuse additional energy into the team’s defensive line, further fortifying their stance on the field.


Regize Canistan – the talented left midfielder currently playing for FC La Sarraz-Eclépens in the fourth tier of Swiss football, is set to make waves with the Sri Lanka national team in the upcoming Four Nations Tournament. His experience and skill on the field are sure to be invaluable assets to the team.
