The Irrigation Department has announced that spill gates at 12 major reservoirs and six medium-sized reservoirs have been opened in response to persistent rainy weather across the country.

This proactive measure aims to manage rising water levels and safeguard downstream communities from potential flooding.

Several key reservoirs have activated all their spill gates to control water flow, including:

- Rajanganaya Reservoir – 10 spill gates

- Lunugamvehera Reservoir – 10 spill gates

- Weheragala Reservoir – 10 spill gates

- Sorabora Wewa – 10 spill gates

- Deduru Oya Reservoir – 10 spill gates

- Alikotaara Reservoir – 10 spill gates

The Department has also indicated that spill gates at additional reservoirs are being operated as necessary, depending on water level increases caused by continuous rainfall.

Authorities are closely monitoring reservoir levels and continue to assess water release volumes.
