Sri Lanka CERT has warned of an increase in online scams and financial fraud on social media during the Sinhala and Tamil New Year period.

It noted that scammers are impersonating government institutions, supermarkets, and businesses to promote fake offers and giveaways.

The agency stated that complaints include scams linked to “Avurudu Kumari” contests used to collect personal data.

Victims have reported financial losses and unauthorised bank transactions.

Sri Lanka CERT urged the public not to share personal or banking details and to verify information through official sources.
