The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has requested the U.S. Embassy to lift its security advisory for U.S. tourists in Sri Lanka, specifically for Arugam Bay.
The advisory, issued on 23 October, urged U.S. citizens to avoid the area.
Following the arrest of six suspects related to a recent security incident, Defence Secretary Ret. Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha visited the Eastern Province to review safety measures.
Officials are now working to ensure the safety of key tourist destinations while maintaining tourists’ freedom and confidence in their security.
