The Castle Street Hospital for Women has reported the rare birth of conjoined twin girls earlier this week.
According to Hospital Director Dr. Ajith Danthanarayana, the 29-year-old mother from Pannala delivered the twins via Caesarean section.
The babies, weighing a combined 4.4 kg, are joined at the abdomen and are currently in stable condition.
A separation surgery is planned at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children in about three months, following a recovery and evaluation period.
Dr. Danthanarayana noted this is the first recorded conjoined twin birth at Castle Street Hospital in recent history.
