The Government of Sri Lanka (GoSL) has launched initiatives under the “Technology for Village” concept to empower rural communities through science-based technological knowledge.
Currently, 315 Technology Centers operate across the country.
To strengthen and expand the program, which received limited focus between 2021 and 2024, the Ministry of Science and Technology has prepared a five-year strategic plan for 2026–2030.
Initial steps are also being taken to transform the centers into resource hubs and service points in collaboration with the National Enterprise Development Authority and the Sri Lanka Handicrafts Development Board.
The Cabinet has approved the plan, which includes assigning at least one science graduate to each of the 315 centers nationwide to ensure effective implementation of the program.
