Despite the sudden power outage experienced in several parts of Colombo and Kalutara on Friday (6), no concerns over the power supply system’s stability have occurred at the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB).
Speaking to The Sunday Morning yesterday (7), CEB Spokesperson Dhammike Wimalaratne said that Friday’s breakdown caused by a tripping in the Biyagama-Pannipitiya main power line had been restored within an hour.
“Power was restored in an hour. It was a fairly big breakdown but we managed to restore it soon. There are no special concerns over the stabilisation of the system.”
Wimalaratne said that all outages that had taken place during the extreme weather conditions of last weekend had been resolved within a few days, even as CEB workers faced challenging conditions.
During the heavy storms, over 72,000 electricity breakdowns were reported islandwide.
By the following Monday (2), 70% of these complaints had been resolved, said the CEB.
