- Sallay discharged from NHSL
The Colombo Fort Magistrate has ordered the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to produce the former Head of the State Intelligence Service, Major General (Retired) Suresh Sallay, who is currently in CID custody under detention orders (DOs), before the Court on 22 April. The order was issued by Colombo Fort Magistrate Isuru Neththikumara when the case was taken up before Court yesterday (26).
The Magistrate informed the Court that although the suspect is currently being detained and interrogated in connection with the investigation, he has been named as a suspect in the case and must therefore be produced before Court when the case is taken up.
Sallay, who was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital following a sudden illness, has been discharged. Subsequently, he has returned to the CID where he remains in detention.
Sallay was arrested by the CID on 25 February in Peliyagoda. He was arrested in relation to the ongoing investigation into the 2019 Easter Sunday bombings. Sallay is being held under a 90-day DO.
On Wednesday (25), Sallay was admitted to the Hospital following a sudden illness. He was admitted to Hospital on Wednesday after his condition was brought to the attention of the Magistrate. Following an examination, he was referred to a doctor and subsequently admitted to the Hospital on medical advice.
Meanwhile, it was reported that family members had requested permission to visit him to check on his condition, but that approval was not granted.
