33rd Mercantile Basketball League: CDB thump HNB to clinch ‘B’ Division title

Citizens Development Business Finance PLC (CDB) got the better of Hatton National Bank (HNB) 54-44 in the grand finale of the Men’s ‘B’ Division segment at the 33rd Mercantile Services Basketball Association (MSBA) League on Friday (14) at the Royal College Indoor Sports Complex.

At half-time CDB led 29-20. Last year, CDB finished as runners-up against David Pieris Group.

Osanda Umayanga (CDB) was awarded the Ranil Ganewatte Memorial Award for the Best Player in the ‘B’ Division. Umayanga and Malshan Rumaiz scored 10 points each for CDB in the final, while Sakindu Wickramanayake, who finished as the tournament’s leading scorer with 101 points, led the leaderboard for HNB with 16 points.

The awards ceremony was presided over by MSBA Senior Vice President Rimaz Hassan and MSBA General Secretary Dilka Sirimanna. 

With over 100 games across multiple divisions, the MSBA League Tournament continues to be the premier basketball event for the corporate sector in Sri Lanka.
