Twenty-four trade unions representing the Department of Railways have decided to launch a 48-hour trade union action on 17 and 18 September.

The unions stated that the railway service is facing a crisis due to what they described as the arbitrary administration of the General Manager of Railways, causing continued inconvenience to passengers.

They further stated that the strike is being launched in protest against the alleged suppression of trade union officials who have raised concerns over the situation.
