Sri Lanka Police have issued guidelines on steps to follow after losing a mobile phone or becoming a victim of theft.

Police urged the public to immediately deactivate SIM cards through service providers and provide the device IMEI number when lodging complaints.

The public has also been advised to register device details through the “I Need” online platform and verify second-hand phones before purchase.

According to Police, 2,796 lost mobile phones were recovered in 2024, while 2,355 devices have been recovered so far in 2025.
