  •  FCID OIC summoned to Court

The Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court (MC) has issued notice requiring the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) to appear before Court on 12 October in connection with former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s wife Shiranthi Rajapaksa’s anticipatory bail application.

The application relates to an ongoing investigation into the financial affairs of the “Siriliya Saviya” organisation.

Rajapaksa, who returned to Sri Lanka from Malaysia on Monday (5), has been informed by the Police to appear before the FCID on 13 October.

She had reportedly left Sri Lanka for Singapore in the early hours of 16 September for medical treatment, after being admitted to a private hospital in Colombo on 15 September after reportedly falling ill. According to reports, she was subsequently taken directly from the hospital to the airport.

The Rajapaksa family has rejected reports that she knowingly left the country while subject to an earlier FCID summons, maintaining that she had not been notified by the FCID before arriving at the airport.

Meanwhile, attorneys representing Rajapaksa filed an anticipatory bail application before the Maligakanda MC on Monday, seeking an order preventing her arrest in connection with the ongoing investigation into the Siriliya Saviya organisation.
