The Department of Irrigation has opened four spill gates of the Deduru Oya Reservoir by two feet each due to heavy rainfall.

Water is being released at a rate of 5,600 cubic feet per second, the department stated.

Residents and communities using the Deduru Oya downstream of the reservoir have been urged to remain vigilant and exercise caution due to the increased water discharge.
