Susanthika’s services not discontinued: Prakash

02 Jun 2026

The Cricket Transformation Committee (CTC) of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Secretary Prakash Schaffter yesterday (1), refuted certain media reports that they have discontinued the services of Olympic medallist Susanthika Jayasinghe.

Jayasinghe, 50, was appointed as a consultant for mentoring and development of Sri Lanka’s Women’s cricket three years ago by the previous Ex-Co of SLC led by now-resigned Shammi Silva.

Schaffter dismissed claims that the new caretaker body installed at the Maitland Place-based institution has dispensed with the services of the Nation’s sole living Olympic medallist.

“There is no veracity to these claims of Susanthika (Jayasinghe) being removed from the SLC pay list,” the Transformation Committee Secretary clarified.

However, he said they have nonetheless taken a decision to discontinue with certain service providers, as they have been deemed surplus to their ongoing requirements.

According to informed sources the monthly subsistence allowance previously provided to the ex-sprint queen by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports had been discontinued some time ago.

Afterwards former SLC President Shammi Silva had reportedly arranged a position for her within the cricket administration, with Jayasinghe – who was domiciled for some time in Australia with her children – returning home a few months ago.

The Cricket Transformation Committee led by investment banker turned former politician Eran Wickramaratne, took over the SLC operations from late April this year following the resignation of Silva’s Ex-Co reportedly at the insistence of the Government.
