Health authorities have urged the public to exercise caution when using unfamiliar water bodies during the festive season, citing risks linked to recent adverse weather.

Consultant community physician Samitha Sirithunga said floods and landslides had altered the structure, depth and safety of many water sources across the country. 

Speaking at the Health Promotion Bureau today(24), he advised people to seek local guidance before bathing or using such locations.

He also warned of a higher risk of road and other accidents during school holidays and festivities, urging motorists to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy.
