A new joint opposition alliance, 'Maha Jana Handa' (Voice of the People), was launched today(27) by several political parties to protest the government’s "undemocratic actions, misgovernance, and corruption."

The alliance includes the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), and the United National Party (UNP).

However, the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), despite being listed as a participant, was notably absent from the launch event. 

An SJB MP had stated the party would not join the proposed rally. Organisers announced a joint public protest is scheduled for 21 November.
