The Department of Meteorology issued an advisory for severe lightning, which is valid until 11.00 p.m. tonight (3). 

According to the Department, thunderstorms accompanied by severe lightning are likely to occur at several places in Central, Uva, Sabaragamuwa and Eastern provinces and in Hambantota and Polonnaruwa districts. 

There may also be temporary localised strong winds during thunderstorms, it added, urging the public to exercise caution and remain vigilant of the extreme weather conditions.
