The Department of Meteorology has issued a Red Alert for strong winds, even as Cyclone Ditwah moves northwards, positioned approximately 170 km North-northeast of Jaffna.

Very strong winds, reaching 50–60 kmph and gusting up to 70 kmph, are expected over sea areas from Trincomalee to Puttalam, making these waters very rough.

The Naval and fishing communities are advised not to venture into these sea areas until further notice. 

Fairly strong winds are also forecast along the coasts from Puttalam to Colombo and Trincomalee to Hambantota. 

The public is urged to be attentive to further advisories.
