Money, allegations end up up in wrong accounts, says NR

SLPP National Organiser and Opposition Parliamentarian, attorney Namal Rajapaksa has accused the Government of financial mismanagement and failing to fulfil key promises made to the public, claiming that "not only money but even allegations are ending up in the wrong accounts."

Speaking at a public meeting, he referred to the controversy surrounding the "Rebuilding Sri Lanka" fund and questioned the Government's handling of public finances. He claimed that officials had informed the Parliamentary Committee on Public Finance that the fund had not been formally established and that there was uncertainty regarding the money linked to it. "Nowadays, money from government accounts keeps ending up in the wrong accounts. When questioned, the explanation is either a hacker or an administrative error. It seems that not only money, but even allegations end up in the wrong accounts these days," he said.

Rajapaksa claimed the Government had failed to address the difficulties faced by farmers, alleging that they continue to struggle with fertiliser shortages and the lack of fair prices for their produce. He also said small and medium-sized enterprises were finding it increasingly difficult to survive and claimed that rice mill owners were incurring losses due to the absence of a clear agricultural policy. "Even though the current Government made lots of promises to provide graduates with employment opportunities, graduate unemployment remains unresolved. Factories are shutting down and investors are leaving the country. How can the economy survive when that happens?"

He also criticised the excessive tax burden on individuals and businesses, charging that many small enterprises are being pushed towards closure. "The Government is favouring large-scale business interests at the expense of farmers, entrepreneurs, young people and rural communities."

Commenting on the political climate, Rajapaksa alleged that attempts were being made to silence criticism instead of addressing the issues raised by the public. "The people should unite to form a government that would be accountable to the public, protect local industries, strengthen agriculture, and create opportunities for future generations."
