The Department of Meteorology issued an advisory for severe lightning, which is valid until 11.00 p.m. today (5).

According to the Department, thunderstorms accompanied by severe lightning are likely to occur at several places in North-central provinces and in Matale, Trincomalee, Vavuniya and Mullaittivu districts.

There may also be temporary localised strong winds during thunderstorms, the Department added, urging the public to exercise caution.
