Trade unions have urged the Government to reform Sri Lanka’s labour dispute resolution system, citing inefficiencies that delay justice for workers.
During a meeting with Deputy Labour Minister Mahinda Jayasinghe, the Public Service Labour Officers’ Union highlighted flaws in the current complaint-handling process and stressed the need for prompt settlements.
Key proposals included digitizing the complaints system, updating dispute procedures, and introducing a new salary code reflecting labour officers' qualifications.
Plans are underway to submit a Cabinet paper addressing these issues, while improving employee provident fund recovery through enhanced officer motivation was also discussed.
