The death toll from the Waikkala illicit liquor incident has risen to seven, the police stated.

Eight others are receiving treatment at Negombo Hospital.

A 65-year-old woman who sold the liquor, the distributor, and his wife have been taken into custody. 

The male suspect remains in police custody, while the two women were remanded by Marawila Magistrate’s Court until January 19.
