Sri Lanka has reported nearly 37,000 dengue cases so far in 2026, an increase of around 10,000 cases compared to the same period last year.
Director of the National Dengue Control Unit, Dr. Kapila Kannangara, noted that nearly 50% of cases were reported from the Western Province, with Colombo, Gampaha and Kalutara recording the highest numbers.
A special mosquito control programme is being carried out from today until 10 June across 14 districts and 72 MOH divisions, with inspections and legal action planned against those maintaining mosquito breeding sites.
