The Karapitiya Teaching Hospital (TH) is to be made the country’s third national hospital, following Cabinet of Ministers approval for the same.
Colombo and Kandy are the other two national hospitals.
Cabinet Spokesperson Dr. Bandula Gunawardana informed thus during the weekly press conference held yesterday (23) to announce Cabinet decisions. He added that towards this development, the doctors and nurses of the hospital are being trained.
The hospital provides annual clinical training to over 1,000 medical students of the Ruhuna University’s Medical Faculty.
Meanwhile, the Cabinet has also approved taking the Pottuvil Base Hospital under the Central Government and developing it.
