The Department of Irrigation has warned of a possible minor flood situation in low-lying areas of the Kalu Ganga basin within the next 24 hours due to continued rainfall.

The warning covers Pelmadulla, Nivithigala, Ratnapura, Kuruwita, Ayagama and Elapatha in Ratnapura District, and Ingiriya, Horana, Dodangoda, Millaniya, Bulathsinhala, Madurawala and Palindanuwara in Kalutara District.

Residents in the affected areas and motorists travelling through them have been urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.

Disaster management authorities have also been asked to take precautionary measures.
