The Prisons Department stated that SLPP National Organiser and Opposition Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa, who is currently being held in remand custody, has been granted permission to receive cooked meals from home. Prisons Media Spokesperson Senaka Palletenna stated that permission was granted following a request made on behalf of Rajapaksa.

The Colombo Magistrate’s Court ordered Rajapaksa to be remanded until 18 September following his arrest by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption on suspicion of accepting bribes in connection with the controversial Airbus deal. Accordingly, Palletenna stated that special security arrangements have been implemented in and around the ward where he is being held at the Colombo Remand Prison. He further stated that permission has been granted for up to three individuals to visit him per day.
