PM clarifies history and aesthetics remain in education reforms

17 Jul 2025 | BY Staff Writer

Prime Minister (PM) Harini Amarasuriya has refuted claims that History and Aesthetics have been removed from the national curriculum under the new education reforms.

Speaking at an awareness program for Western Province education officials, she emphasised that these subjects are in fact mandatory under the new framework.

She accused certain parties of spreading false information for political gain, urging them not to involve children's education in political agendas. The reforms, she stressed, were shaped after consultations with education experts to foster well-rounded students with strong human values.

The Prime Minister called on all stakeholders to communicate the truth about the reforms and help build an informed society.
