The ongoing transformation of the Hingurakgoda runway has reported significant progress, following the successful test landing by a Y-12 aircraft yesterday (13). 

Led by the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF), the project is being developed in collaboration with the Road Development Authority (RDA) and regulatory bodies like the Civil Aviation Authority and Airports and Aviation Sri Lanka.

The runway, being constructed in four phases, has progressed significantly, with the first phase including the completion of 850 m of asphalt over the 2,500 m runway. The next phase will begin tomorrow (15), extending the runway by an additional 850 m.
