General (Retd) Mahesh Senanayake, former Sri Lanka Army Commander, has joined the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) and will lead the affiliated 'Samagi Ranawiru Balawegaya'.

Senanayake, who served as the 22nd Army Commander and Chief of Staff, was promoted to General upon retirement in 2019.

He previously ran for president in the 2019 election, finishing fourth.
