Sri Lanka will kick off their campaign for a maiden and historic berth in the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia with a Test against Korea at Racecourse Grounds, Colombo today (13).
However, an illness swirling around the squad for some time has struck down a few of its key players which has meant selectors and the overseas-based stop-gap head coach having to reshuffle the match day 23 to suit its requirements.
The squad led by experienced centre Tarinda Ratwatte will face a litmus test of its credentials this evening from the tourists who will be no pushover based on previous results between the two nations.
According to informed sources, the majority of Korean players ply their trade in domestic competitions in Japan and hence they will be battle-hardened heading into the crucial clash.
Following the encounter against Korea, the ‘Tuskers’ will fly out to Hong Kong to meet the home team on 21 June and afterwards they will return home to entertain the UAE on 4 July.
