Ananda Ganegoda, founder of ‘Singlanka’ and a veteran figure in Sri Lanka’s music industry, has passed away.

Ganegoda contributed to the revival and development of Sinhala classical and quality music and established ‘Singlanka’ as a cassette production company.

In 1980, he pioneered Sri Lanka’s cassette music industry by releasing 25 cassette tapes featuring leading vocalists including Nanda Malini and W. D. Amaradeva.

More than 2,000 songs were released under his direction.

His remains are currently at his private residence in Mount Lavinia. The date and time of the final rites will be announced later.
