No-Confidence motion rejection leads to parliament disruption

A heated situation in Parliament led to a 10-minute suspension after the Speaker rejected a no-confidence motion against Deputy Defence Minister Aruna Jayasekera.

The opposition protested the decision, with MP Gayantha Karunathilaka demanding that the reports from the Attorney General (AG) and the Secretary-General’s Board used to justify the rejection be presented to the House.

Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Mujibur Rahman called the decision a "baseless" political move, claiming it was intended to prevent the minister from facing scrutiny over his role in the Easter attacks.
