The Sri Lanka Police Traffic Headquarters has raised concerns over the increasing number of foreign nationals driving three-wheelers in the country, leading to a rise in accidents.
Foreigners must hold a valid Sri Lankan driving license, an international driving license recognized in Sri Lanka, or a converted foreign license to legally drive.
Accordingly, international driving permits and converted licenses do not authorize them to drive three-wheelers. Police warn that allowing unlicensed individuals to drive is punishable by a Rs. 25,000 fine.
Vehicle owners and tourism-related businesses are urged to verify licenses before renting out three-wheelers to foreigners.
