Sri Lanka reported a budget deficit of Rs. 498.28 billion for the first quarter of 2025, according to the Financial Performance Statement submitted to the Cabinet.
From January to March, the government earned Rs. 1,064.66 billion in revenue while spending reached Rs. 1,562.94 billion.
Tax revenue made up the bulk of income at Rs. 970.58 billion, while recurring expenditure dominated spending at Rs. 1,226.55 billion.
The report fulfils the legal requirement under the Public Finance Management Act to present quarterly financial data to the cabinet within 45 days.
