The Cabinet has approved a programme to issue free tourist visas for six months to passport holders from 39 selected countries.

The move aims to promote Sri Lanka’s tourism industry.

Legislation to implement the visa scheme will be submitted to Parliament, following legal procedures.

The proposal was presented by the Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs.
