As the traditional political parties get fragmented, the Sarvajana Balaya alliance, remains as the only rising political movement, said its leader Parliamentarian Dilith Jayaweera.

Even though not shown in numbers, the public response has shown that the Sarvajana Balaya alliance has the highest preference from the people.

Addressing the party’s Convention yesterday (1 December), held in Colombo, the Sarvajana Balaya leader Jayaweera expressed his view.

Commenting further on the current political environment, Jayaweera added: “As per the results of the Parliamentary General Election, the Sarvajana Balaya has moved forward with a higher percentage. Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) is the least percentage, despite their fullest attempt during the election. They couldn’t move forward.

The SLPP was created to sustain Basil Rajapaksa in the political sphere. It was to keep his voter ‘mill’ running and collect suitable people to do so. “Pohottuwa’ (SLPP) lacked vision. We attempted to introduce the ideology we trust to them in order to create a new party. But, all Basil and Namal wanted was to keep the family politics active. What has happened to ‘pohottuwa’ now? When the creator, the American citizen left the country, the party does not have anyone to keep the mill running.

If any party with nationalistic ideology exist, that is only Sarvajana Balaya. Our aim is a happy nation.

The traditional political party, the United National Party (UNP), now no more. It has converted to a ‘gas cylinder’.  Many of that party, with their best efforts, have sent Ravi Karunanayake to the Parliament.”

“Today we are in a very unfortunate situation. We should practice politics knowing all these links and causes. We want a political atmosphere which loves its citizens; True and faithful politics that do not desire privileges. We want to be a part of this merited deed,” said Jayaweera.

The conference was attended by Sarvajana Balaya alliance Senior Leader Hemakumara Nanayakkara, its President Roshan Ranasinghe, National Organiser Dilum Amunugama along with electoral and district organisers and many other guests.
