A school principal from Eppawala, Anuradhapura, has been interdicted with immediate effect by the North Central Province Director of Education following his arrest on drug charges.
The principal was arrested last week in possession of 1.185 kilos of heroin, with an estimated street value of approximately Rs. 20 million.
The Director stated the suspension was warranted under the establishments code.
The Thambuttegama Magistrate’s Court ordered the suspect to be remanded until 12 November.
Meanwhile, the suspect's wife, former National People’s Power (NPP) Urban Councillor Disna Niranjala Kumari, resigned, citing personal and ethical distress over her husband's and son's arrests.
