Sri Lanka’s revised National Mineral Policy has come into effect, banning the export of mineral resources in raw form without value addition.

Industry Minister Sunil Handunneththi stated that the new policy will regulate exploration, mining, processing and value addition to increase economic returns from the country’s mineral resources.

The policy, which received Cabinet approval and was presented to Parliament, officially took effect yesterday(11).
