SriLankan Airlines Flight UL 122 from Chennai to Colombo underwent an intensive security inspection upon arrival yesterday (3) following an alert about a suspected Indian terrorist potentially being onboard.
The airline confirmed that the aircraft (4R-ALS) had landed at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) at 11.59 a.m. and had been immediately subjected to a thorough search by authorities.
The operation, coordinated with local security agencies, was initiated after the Chennai Area Control Centre flagged concerns about the suspect’s presence on the flight.
While the aircraft was later cleared for operations, the delay cascaded to Flight UL 308 to Singapore, disrupting schedules.
SriLankan Airlines emphasised that passenger safety remained its “highest priority” and assured compliance with international security protocols.
No further details about the suspect or the investigation were disclosed. Authorities continue to monitor the situation.
Indian High Commission First Secretary Roshni Thomson; the Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority; and Police, Defence Ministry, and Airport and Aviation Services spokespersons declined to issue comments pending further investigations into the matter.
