A Sri Lankan delegation led by Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd) held meetings with senior United Nations officials in New York yesterday(22).

The discussions were held in connection with MoU negotiations on a proposed Gang Suppression Force deployment to Haiti.

The delegation met UN Under-Secretary-General for Operational Support Atul Khare and UCSD Director Michael Mulinge Kitivi, along with UN human rights representatives.

Talks focused on the potential deployment of Sri Lankan troops, including operational readiness, compliance with UN standards, and human rights requirements.
