The Department of Meteorology has issued an ‘Amber’ advisory warning of severe lightning in several parts of the country.

The advisory, issued at noon today (05), will remain in effect until 11.00 p.m.

Thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are expected in the Central, Sabaragamuwa, Uva, Southern and Northcentral provinces, as well as in Ampara District after 2.00 p.m.

The department also warned of temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers.

The public is advised to take necessary precautions to minimize potential damage caused by lightning activity.
