The College of Community Physicians of Sri Lanka (CCPSL) reports a sharp increase in child suicides, with over 200 cases in 2024.
The chairperson of CCPSL, Consultant Community Physician Dr. Kapila Jayaratne highlighted social media as a contributing factor, noting a rise from 133 cases in 2022 to 270 in 2023.
He emphasised the need for regulation and stated that CCPSL is exploring measures to address the issue, with further recommendations expected soon.
