The Ministry of Education (MOE) has announced a reduction in the school year for 2025 from 210 to 181 days. 

Accordingly, this adjustment addresses the impact of 26 public holidays, 22 of which fall on weekdays, and delays in starting the first school term.

Government schools, approved private schools, and Pirivenas will reopen on 2 January 2025 for the final three weeks of the 2024 term, ending on 24 January. 

The 2025 academic year begins on 27 January.
