Police in Trincomalee yesterday (10) took legal action against 17 unauthorized sand storage yards operating in the Kandakadu area of Kinniya.

The raid, prompted by a complaint from local residents to the Deputy Inspector General (DIG), targeted sites that had been illegally stockpiling sand from the Mahaweli River without valid permits. 

Authorities confirmed that all illegal storage facilities were dismantled during the operation.
