Tangalle High Court today (11) granted bail to former police officer and former SLPP local council election candidate Sampath Manamperi, who had been remanded over allegations of possessing a live hand grenade.

He was released on a cash bail of Rs. 10,000 and two sureties of Rs. 250,000 each.

Manamperi was arrested over the possession of weapons and chemicals suspected to be used in the manufacture of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as “ice”.

Police later recovered a live grenade from a house in the Middeniya area following questioning under a detention order.
