The Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court (MC) has decided to summon President’s Counsel Rienzie Arsecularatne and attorney-at-law Udara Muhandiramge to testify in the death inquiry of the former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the SriLankan Airlines, Kapila Chandrasena.
Accordingly, Colombo Fort Chief Magistrate Pasan Amarasekara yesterday (02) issued summons directing the two lawyers to appear before the Court as witnesses.
The Colombo Crimes Division informed the Court that steps are being taken, through the Justice Ministry, to send the iPhone belonging to the deceased to Apple Inc. in the United States for further examination.
The Court also granted permission for a green-coloured strap found at the deceased’s residence to be forwarded to the Government Analyst’s Department for examination.
Delivering his order, the Magistrate further stated that, in terms of Section 126 of the Evidence Ordinance and the provisions of Supreme Court Rules Number 31, it was decided that any advice given to the deceased, Chandrasena, or any written or oral communications made to his witnesses, Arsecularatne and Muhandiramge, would not be disclosed.
The Magistrate issued summons to the 19th and 20th witnesses in the case and ordered them to appear before the Court on 5 June to give evidence. The Magisterial inquiry was postponed until that date for further proceedings.
