The remains of veteran actress Malini Fonseka, hailed as the “Queen of Sri Lankan Cinema,” were brought to the National Film Corporation this morning for public viewing. Her body will lie in state today (25) at Tharangani Hall, with further public respects scheduled for tomorrow at Independence Square.
Her final rites will be held with full state honours tomorrow evening (26) at Independence Square in Colombo.
Malini Fonseka passed away at the age of 78 on 24 May while receiving treatment at a private hospital.
A legendary actress, director, and former parliamentarian, Fonseka’s career spanned over 6 decades, featuring more than 140 films. She was Sri Lanka’s first female teledrama director and remains a celebrated figure in theatre, television, and film.
