General Secretary of the JVP, Tilvin Silva, stated that the National People’s Power (NPP) will not form coalitions with parties rejected by voters to gain control of Local Government (LG) bodies.

Following the 2025 Local Government election results, Silva said the NPP is open only to working with independent candidates who align with their vision.

He stressed that while the NPP received the highest number of votes in many councils, some rival parties are attempting to combine minor wins to form artificial majorities.

Silva emphasised that such tactics undermine democracy and affirmed the NPP’s intent to establish councils only where they secured a clear political mandate.

He concluded that the NPP has won the election both numerically and morally and is committed to carrying forward its development agenda.
