Sri Lanka has achieved a historic tourism milestone, welcoming 252,761 visitors in January 2025, the highest single-month figure since January 2018.
This surge marks a notable increase from previous years, including 238,924 tourists in January 2018 and 208,253 in January 2024.
India contributed the most tourists, with 43,375 arrivals, while significant numbers also came from Russia, England, China, Germany, France, and Australia.
According to Buddhika Hewawasam, the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA), this uptick reaffirms the country's growing appeal as a travel destination.
The Chairman stated that each tourist spends about Rs. 40,000 per day in the country.
He also noted that there are sufficient hotel rooms available for the tourists arriving in Sri Lanka.
