Delays in approving maize imports could lead to higher chicken meat and egg prices during the upcoming festive season, according to the All Island Poultry Association of Sri Lanka.

Association President Ajith Gunasekara stated that replacing maize with rice in animal feed has caused a significant decline in poultry meat and egg production.

He also noted that around 20% of small-scale poultry producers have withdrawn from the industry due to the severe maize shortage.
